DVD duplication is where standard or
special shape DVD-Rs are burnt with a laser in a normal
DVD writer drive. The '-R' after the format type
stands for 'Recordable' (As opposed to DVD
replication which are
referred to as DVD ROM where the 'ROM' stands for 'Read-Only
Memory' as these discs cannot be burnt at all and are 'pressed'
at the time of manufacture).
For DVD duplication we use robotic
DVD duplicators that can process large numbers of DVDs
of all sizes quickly and efficiently. This type of production
is ideal for smaller print runs of 1000 discs or less,
or where the discs are required very quickly. These discs
are typically applied with photo-glossy labels that have
been printed in a very high quality laser printer. The
laser print process is smudge-proof and allows full colour
printing that is suitable for photographs or complex
colour gradients.
An advantage of duplicated discs
is that we can supply them printed, but blank, for you
to burn your own content onto in a standard
DVD writer drive. This can be useful if you are sending
out individual client files, or if the information that
you need to put on the discs is constantly varying.
The other main type
of CD and DVD production is referred to as DVD
replication which involves pressing the
discs from a glass
master. This process is used for higher
volume discs, resulting in much lower unit costs for
larger orders of 1000 discs or more. |
